Global Warming Destroys Coral Reefs and More

In the Guardian (2008) article entitled “Hurricanes and global warming devastate Caribbean coral reefs,” the author points out that global warming affects badly on the coral. First of all, he states that the change of climate causes more high temperature on the sea and more disasters, which lead to the killing of large numbers of coral. He states that this problem has expanded more than in the past because of the natural disasters. Next, hurricanes increase the damage of the natural life on the ocean, which is the ideal environment for coral reefs to live and feed. Moreover, once the sea loses the algae which are the food for coral, it cannot protect the coral from the sunlight which will cause a lot of diseases for coral. The author mentions that the coral reefs face other problems such as overfishing and sea pollution. Moreover, the author points out that coral plays a big part in the sea life; also, it is an independent food for most of the fish; because of that, if we did not protect coral reefs, we will lose most of the sea life. In addition, the author states that coral is an economics income for the countries and if we do not keep it safe, then that will cost the countries a huge number, millions of dollars. Lundin is quoted as saying that if we manage carefully the negative effect on coral, we can decrease the water temperature over time to guard the sea life and coral. Finally, the author points out that the increase of CO2 stage is another issue that will reduce coral’s life.

It is true that hurricanes and global warming already have damaged a huge number of coral reefs. Global warming has many disadvantages for the environment in general, not only the sea life, so we have to watch out before we get a serious problem that affects our life and health. There are some disadvantages of the global warming; first, the damage of the sea life, second is the economic side, and last is the health issue.

First, the global warming affects harmfully the oceanic environment. In fact there are a lot of things that cause sea pollution, such as CO2, hurricanes and sea pollution. Algae play an important role in the sea environment because it has a lot of benefits; one of them is that algae help coral by feeding it. Furthermore, moss can protect coral from the direct sunlight that can cause many diseases for coral. In addition, there are many good things about coral; because of that, we should protect them. First, coral is food for most kinds of fish, which means most kinds of fish lives depend on coral. Indeed, a coral reef is an important element in the ocean because it can protect the fish eggs, which will expand the number of fish in the ocean. Finally, people should protect the sea life by reducing of use the things that can increase the global warming.

Second, the sea pollution will affect on the economics side of the country. The country will lose a huge amount of money if they lose the sea life because some countries depend on their income from fishing. Moreover, in the future the problem will become bigger, and then the countries will pay a large amount of money to reduce the sea pollution because life will be difficult without ocean resources. Furthermore, for some people who live around the ocean, their life depends on fishing and getting benefits from the sea. For example, when the war had started between Iraq and Kuwait in 1991, some of the oil ships were destroyed on the Gulf Sea and this led to big damage; to all the sea life over there was killed or harmed in a bad way, which make people stay away from the sea because it was not healthy anymore and the problem is some people’s lives depended on fishing, and that affected their lives in a bad way; if they have no money, how can they live.

Third, the ocean pollution causes many health problems. If we have a high level of sea pollution, that will affect fisher’s lives. Also, the sea pollution can effect badly on people who live close to the ocean, because they will use the sea water more than others and they will get polluted air, which is coming from the ocean. Moreover, people who eat the ocean products lives will be at risk. For example, when somebody eats sea products, which are fed by a polluted sea, the pollution will be delivered from fish to his or her body. People should take care of the sea because if they do not that will affect directly on their health.

In conclusion, the ocean contains important things such as coral reefs and fish. The government and people should take care of the ocean environment, because of many reasons. The most important reason is that sea pollution destroys sea life, the wealth of our lives and our wellbeing.
